Education

Kenny began studying classical guitar at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. After approximately three years of study, he moved to Denver, Colorado where he acquired a 'Bachelor Of Science in Music' degree from the University Of Colorado at Denver. With 'guitar performance' as his major area of study at UCD, the focus was on jazz, music theory, and soloing over chord changes.

The Lessons

In addition to classical guitar and jazz, Kenny plays and teaches virtually all styles of music. A Texas native, he has played in country, blues, and rock bands professionally since the age of 18.

Kenny and guitar student James, in a lesson Regardless of musical style or preference, Kenny tries to work with all students to establish a solid musical foundation emphasizing fingerboard knowledge, basic music theory, ear training, soloing/improvisation, and reading, if desired. He has found that the students experience great success working on music that they choose. He lets the students bring CD's, cassette tapes, or sheet music of songs that they want to learn, teaches them how to play the songs, and then works with them on understanding why the songs sound the way they do--applying the music theory and information learned to their songs.

Kenny works with guitar and bass students of all ages and levels from beginners to professionals.

Location

The teaching studio is located next to Kenny's home in the beautiful 'Lost Pines' forest, just outside of Bastrop, Texas. (Bastrop, Tx. 78602) It is a quiet and peaceful environment to study music in, without the distractions found in many other settings where private guitar lessons are given.

Schedule

Since the studio is next to Kenny's home, the schedule is a bit more flexible. He likes to work with the students once a week, in half hour or hour lessons. Weekdays are preferable, as his weekends are normally booked with performances. For scheduling, contact the studio at (512) 303-0513, or e-mail at kenny@kennygrimes.com.
